Transponder Immobiliser Technology

Back in the good old days, worrying whether your car was going to be where you left it when you came back was simply unheard of.
Since, and including then, automotive security has remained fairly unchanged, even basic, offering no challenge to today’s car thieves Some car manufacturers have tried different methods of foiling the thief. Including internal door barriers, unusual keyways, & electronic entry. All with varying degrees of success. Today's manufacturers, trying for increased market share, need to be ahead of the competition. The inconvenience of having your car stolen (not to mention the increased insurance premiums & excesses) and pressures from insurance companies have forced manufacturers to rethink security
Electronics have been used in cars for a while now and it stands to reason that security would be the next logical choice. Many cars manufactured from 1995 have electronic immobiliser systems installed taking vehicle security into the 21st century. These keys have an electronic chip inserted into the head. They hold the electronic password that will tell the car's electronics that it is alright to start the engine. This combined with the improved sophistication of the mechanical locking systems make a car filled with this system a difficult target. This technology comes at a price. When vehicles are purchased they are normally supplied with two to four keys. Over time keys get lost and cars get sold. The price of a new electronic key is substantially higher than the price of older keys. The price of a key is nothing compared to the inconvenience and cost of replacing keys if all are lost. One manufacturer indicated a cost of approximately $3000.00. Without a key you car is a large space taker. Prevention is the answer.
